Max Douglas “Doug” Kirchen died on May 21, 2023, after an extended battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia. A native Floridian born at St. Francis Hospital, Miami Beach, he served as a U.S. Army sergeant in Vietnam during 1968- 1970. Those who knew him valued his honesty, sincerity, and love of native Florida. An avid angler, he spent countless hours around Miami and the Florida Keys in the 1960s, and later Lake Okeechobee.
He received a BS in Ocean Engineering from Florida Atlantic University in 1972. Rebuilt and sailed the Mary Ann, a 38 ft. yawl in the mid-1970s. Successfully founded a wholesale plant nursery with his partner, the late Jeffrey Weinstein (another honorable gentleman), and retired only to find his military service resulted in his illness. He leaves behind his wife, Anita, and daughter Beryl (Naivy) and a host of friends who will miss his quiet kindness and gentle spirit.
